These easy baked cinnamon sugar Timbits are ready in just 27 minutes and offer a healthier, family-friendly twist on the iconic Canadian treat. Skip the messy deep fryer with this simple oven-baked method that yields tender, fluffy donut holes. Coated in melted butter and sweet cinnamon sugar, they are the perfect bite-sized snack for your morning coffee.
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a mini muffin tin with non-stick cooking spray. If you have a dedicated silicone donut hole mold, you can use that instead.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground nutmeg until well combined. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients.
In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the whole milk, 1/4 cup melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the well of the dry ingredients.
Gently fold the wet and dry ingredients together using a rubber spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, or your Timbits will become tough and dense.
Spoon or pipe the batter into the prepared mini muffin tin, filling each cup about two-thirds full. You should get approximately 24 to 30 mini muffins or donut holes.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let them cool in the pan for 2 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
While the Timbits are baking, prepare the coating by whisking the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cinnamon in a small, shallow bowl. Place the remaining 1/4 cup of melted butter in another small bowl.
Once the Timbits are cool enough to handle but still warm, dip each one briefly into the melted butter to coat the outside. Roll the buttered Timbits in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully covered, then serve warm alongside a hot cup of coffee or cold glass of milk!
