This comforting variation of the traditional Slovak meat patty features a delightful surprise: a gooey, melted cheese center. Seasoned with the classic combination of garlic and marjoram, these crispy fried patties are perfect for a hearty family dinner.
Soak the stale bread slices in the milk for about 5 minutes until soft, then squeeze out the excess liquid thoroughly.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, ground beef, soaked bread, minced onion, crushed garlic, and the egg.
Season the meat mixture with dried marjoram, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly with your hands until the ingredients are well combined.
Divide the meat mixture into 8 equal portions.
Take one portion of meat, flatten it slightly in your palm, place a cube of cheese in the center, and wrap the meat around it to form a tightly sealed oval patty.
Pour the breadcrumbs onto a flat plate and roll each patty in the crumbs until fully coated on all sides.
Heat about half an inch of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Fry the patties in batches for 4-5 minutes on each side until they are deep golden brown and fully cooked through.
Transfer the fried fašírky to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil before serving warm.
